Bash and Lucy Fetch Team Vera and the Dream Beasts
Michael, age 9, and I are about to release our new book, “Bash and Lucy Fetch Team Vera and the Dream Beasts.”
Michael played a very important role in writing this book. He insisted on the title because he wanted a long, Captain-Underpants style title. What’s more, he created the girl-power characters in the book, who are based on his sister, Ally, his grandma, Vera, and his cousin, Paula.
Michael also invented and designed the dream beasts, which chase people who don’t like dogs.
In the book, sensitive Bash gets grumpy and disruptive if his world is too bright, loud, or busy. He needs his dog, Lucy, to help keep him calm. His dog happens to be a soccer coach who barks, wags and kisses Bash’s team to victory. But his girl-power cousin, Paula, has other plans for Lucy. She says that under Title IX, her girls’ soccer team deserves to have the very best coach–and that’s Lucy! How can Bash show he respects the girls’ right while ensuring Lucy stays close to him?
We’re thankful to Vinnie Kinsella for design, Laura Garwood and Kristin Thiel for editing, and Heather Nichols for the wonderful illustrations.
Watch the book trailer we created nearly four years ago. It’s still relevant today!
